Information of the practice DR. FRÜHWEIN & PARTNER

Who has a basic right to vaccination against Corona in Germany?

All persons with residence or habitual abode in Germany or who are employed in certain care facilities in Germany but do not reside in Germany have a basic entitlement to vaccination.

Are children and adolescents vaccinated against COVID-19?

Vaccination is recommended by the STIKO for adolescents between 12 and 18 years of age. The vaccines used are Comirnaty from Biontech/Pfizer and Spikevax from Moderna. Meanwhile, booster vaccinations are also recommended at this age. However, the vaccine from Moderna is only recommended by the STIKO for people over 30 years of age.

For children 5 to 11 years of age, there is currently an approved vaccine in Europe from Pfizer.

The mRNA vaccine Comirnaty is given in a lower dosage (10 μg) than in adults for basic immunization twice at least 3 weeks apart.
There is no licensed vaccine for children under 5 years of age.

For whom is a first booster vaccination recommended?

  • For all adults and children 12 years of age and older, booster vaccination with Comirnaty mRNA vaccine (30 μg) is recommended in a window of 3 to 6 months after completed primary immunization.
  • Those who have previously received a single vaccination with the COVID-19 Vaccine Janssen (Johnson&Johnson) require an additional vaccination with an mRNA vaccine (heterologous vaccination schedule) after 4 weeks recommended for complete basic immunization. Booster vaccination is recommended at least 3 months apart from the 2nd vaccine dose with an mRNA vaccine.
  • In case of immunosuppression, revaccination after basic immunization is recommended after 4 weeks.

For whom is a second booster vaccination recommended?

  • People from 70 years
  • Residents and persons cared for in nursing facilities
  • People with immunodeficiency from 5 years of age
  • Workers in medical facilities and nursing homes
