In all injuries, including after medical procedures (e.g., punctures, endoscopic procedures), the pathogens can enter the wound and multiply under special conditions.<\/p>\n<p>They form a nerve toxin, which then triggers the severe symptoms of the disease (extremely painful muscle spasms). Even today, tetanus diseases are to a large extent still fatal. Diseases of tetanus can be reliably prevented by appropriate vaccinations. The tetanus vaccination is not only one of the most important vaccinations of infancy and childhood, it is also essential for every adult.<br \/>\nVaccination against tetanus should be given to infants, children and adolescents in combination with vaccination against diphtheria and pertussis. In adults, it is usually recommended to combine it with vaccination against diphtheria.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vaccination: inactivated vaccine, injection into the muscle<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Who should get vaccinated?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Tetanus vaccination protection is necessary for everyone.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Timing of vaccination:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In infancy from the completed 2nd month of life. Vaccination three times at least 4 weeks apart. Completion of basic immunization with the fourth vaccination after completion of 11 to 14 months of life. Booster vaccinations should be given after the completed 5. until 6 years of age and after completion of 9 to 17 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>The interval to the first booster vaccination should not be shorter than 5 years. If no further injuries, further refresher training in adulthood at intervals of 10 years each.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Most common vaccine reactions:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Good compatibility. Rarely redness, swelling and mild pain at the vaccination site.
