Natural remedies are understood to be various healing methods, which don`t require any technical aids; they make use of the means provided by nature and activate the body’s own forces to bring about healing.
By natural means one understands sun, water, air and earth, movement and rest. Natural foods and medicinal plants are also included.
Classic natural remedies are:
- Hydrotherapy in the form of sauna, baths, wrappings
- Exercise therapy by physiotherapy, sport and relaxation
- Phytotherapy with the use of herbal active ingredients
- Nutritional therapy and recommendation of adequate nutrition
Even the Greek doctor Hippocrates speaks of the right díaita, which he understands not only as a diet, but also as a way of life, appropriate to the respective patient.
Important physicians in the field of naturopathy in the 18th and 19th centuries were Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland and Sebastian Kneipp.
