Homeopathy is based on the experiences of Samuel Hahnemann in the 18./19. Century. Hahnemann worked according to the principle of similars, formulating the sentence “Something similar should be cured by something similar”, lat. Similia similibus curentur. The homeopathic medicine should be such, that it causes similar symptoms in the healthy undiluted, as those from which the patient suffers. For example, Belladonna, the deadly nightshade that produces large pupils through poisoning, is used in fever associated with an enlarged pupil.
Hence the name homeopathy, which means “similar suffering” (Greek hómoios = equal, similar, Greek páthos = suffering).
It uses substances from the animal, vegetable or mineral sector, which are administered with high dilution, or potentiation. The method of treatment is complex, since it is not the search for a remedy for a disease symptom, but a means for the individual person, who comes to us with his symptoms.
The private and some public health insurance companies are now reimbursing the homeopathic treatment, which always begins with the anamnesis, the detailed introductory interview. Check with your health insurance.
